Radio 1: Comic Relief at Valley (16/17 March 2026)

Thu 12 Mar 2026
On Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th March, BBC Radio 1 will be broadcasting live from the Outwood Academy Valley / Your Space car park as part of Greg James’ Incredible Longest Ride for Comic Relief.

We are delighted that the Worksop community will be hosting one of the stops on this nationwide challenge. To mark this exciting occasion, a number of activities will be taking place in the car park and at Your Space Leisure Centre. Due to the scale of this event, there will be some temporary changes to access to the academy car park. These are outlined below.

Monday 16 March

  • The car park gates and academy will open as normal.
  • A live broadcast will take place at approximately 5:06pm, when Greg is expected to arrive in Worksop, completing this leg of his challenge.
  • Members of the local community are welcome to attend and show their support.

Tuesday 17 March

  • There will be no access to the car park, except for staff access.
  • The bottom gate (Baulk Lane) will be closed.
  • We strongly advise that parents do not park on Baulk Lane, as parking wardens regularly issue tickets and the space will also be required for Greg’s departure.
  • Staff will access the car park via the gate closest to the academy on Valley Road.
  • There will be no one-way system in operation on this day.
  • Students are encouraged to walk to the academy or be dropped off at an alternative nearby location.
  • Students with disabilities who require door-to-door drop-off will still be able to access the car park.
  • Gym members have been asked to use public car parks, such as the Tesco car park.
  • Due to the event, traffic could potentially be worse around Worksop. Please allow for extra time to ensure that your child arrives on time if they are being dropped off.

A live Radio 1 broadcast will take place at approximately 7:30am, after which Greg will depart for the next stage of his challenge to York at 8:00am.

Students should arrive at the academy at the usual time for the start of the school day. From 7:45am, students will have the opportunity to listen to the live broadcast in the Atrium.

A number of our students will also be representing the academy as part of a welcome and departure team, helping to support Greg as he arrives and leaves Worksop.

I am sure you will agree that this is a fantastic opportunity to support Comic Relief and celebrate our local community.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
