Outwood Academy Valley, formerly Valley Comprehensive School, converted to Academy status in June 2012, sponsored by Outwood Grange Academies Trust. The Trust currently sponsors a number of secondary and primary schools in the region.
Outwood Academy Valley, is an outstanding school in the north of Nottinghamshire at the gateway to the famous Dukeries, including Clumber Park. Situated in Worksop, a vibrant town with a historic market centre and a mining heritage, we work closely with the town’s other secondary school, Outwood Academy Portland to raise standards and transform the lives of the children in the community. In December 2007 the school was rebuilt to provide a state of the art learning environment with excellent facilities for learning.
In May 2017 the academy was inspected by Ofsted and judged to be outstanding in all categories. Since then results have continued to improve and in 2018 82% of students achieved a Grade 4 or above in both English and mathematics, 72% achieved Grade 5 or above in both English and mathematics and progress was significantly above national averages. This places the academy as the second highest performing school for 5+ basics in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. We are also one of the highest performing schools for progress in these regions.
Parents/carers are keen to send their children to Outwood Academy Valley and we are currently oversubscribed for years 7 and 8, a pattern which we expect to continue for many years to come. In addition to our outstanding results we pride ourselves on our inclusive practice and develop our students to become confident, articulate and successful learners who are ready for the next stage of their lives. The academy is well known for its inspirational performing art productions and its sporting successes and we ensure to give all our students a memorable experience throughout their school life. Students are encouraged and also have the opportunity to attend a wide range of enrichments. Currently there are around 100 different enrichments running.
The Post 16 Centre serves all 16-18 year old students across Worksop and the surrounding area who chose to study A levels. The centre is staffed by teachers from both Outwood Academy Valley and Outwood Academy Portland and the 2018 results were the best students’ attending the centre had ever achieved. Many of our students progress on to prestigious universities and enjoy successful careers.
