Key Stage 3 Curriculum

During core KS3 technology, students participate in a 4 separate subjects per year to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum. An example can be found in the table below. The KS3 curriculum prepares students for GCSE Design Technology, Catering and BTEC Construction. It allows students to gain experience in a wide range of activities and we encourage them to attend our enrichment programme. This helps equip them with a range of career and life skills.

Year 8

Key Stage 4 Curriculum

At Key Stage 4 students can opt for the following subjects and study these over a 1 or 2 year period depending upon the nature of their option block.

WJEC Level 2 award in Catering and Hospitality

This course is a catering and hospitality programme which will involve all aspects of the industry including a significant amount of practical cookery. The course is assessed by both internal and external assessments.

BTEC 1st Award Construction and the Built Environment

This course is based around all aspects of the construction industry and involves subjects like building design, plumbing, carpentry and joinery and electrical work. The course is assessed by both internal and external assessments.

AQA GCSE Resistant Materials

This course is based around working with woods, metals and plastics. It involves a significant amount of design and practical work. The course is assessed by both internal and external assessments.

AQA GCSE Textiles

This course is based around working with fabrics and materials. It involves a significant amount of design and practical work. The course is assessed by both internal and external assessments.

AQA GCSE Product Design

This course is based around working with a range of materials including paper, card and the utilisation of computer aided design graphic programmes. It involves a significant amount of design and practical work. The course is assessed by both internal and external assessments.

Key Stage 5 Curriculum

At key stage 5 students can choose from A level product Design and A level Textiles

OCR AS and A2 Product Design

This is ideal for students who wish to progress to employment within the design industry or on to higher education in Design or Engineering.

The course involves a product study, design and make around an area of your choice. Understanding is gained through practical experiences, industrial visits and problem solving situations. The course is assessed by both internal and external assessments.

AQA AS and A2 Product Design-Textiles

This is ideal for students who wish to progress to employment within the Fashion and Textiles industry or on to higher education in Fashion or Textiles.

The course deals with materials, components and applications within the textiles industry as well as a significant amount of Design and manufacture of textiles products. The course is assessed by both internal and external assessments.
